Lately i have been working on decorating my boyfriend's apartment. I needed something for the back wall in his living room, i wanted a focal point, but nothing that i was finding at the stores gave me the pop that i was looking for (with out spending way to much) so i decided that i would go ahead and make something myself.
Here is the finished product!
There are just a couple steps to make this decoration. a decoration that anybody can make, artsy or not.
First, decide on the area. How big is the spot you want to decorate? How much wall do you want to cover? I was doing a large back wall so i used twelve 12 by 12 squares.
Second, collect your supplies.
Needed Supplies-
Scrap booking paper, choose whatever patterns you would like
1/2 think styrofoam, you can buy it in cut 12 by 12 pieces, that makes it easier
card stock, to cover the sides, i used black
Rubber Cement, used for all gluing purposes
And an exactor knife, cutting board and ruler for cutting the paper
I bought all of my supplies at Hobby Lobby, if there is not a Hobby Lobby in your area Michaels or any other craft store should carry these supplies
Third, assemble
rubber cement sticks best by sticking to itself once it is dry. This is very different from other glues but with paper it works best because it will not wrinkle the paper. So start by cutting the card stock in strips to cover the sides of the styrofoam
Once you have all of your strips cut apply a layer of rubber cement to the entire backs of the card stock. As that is drying start applying rubber cement to the sides of the styrofoam. By the time you are done covering the styrofoam sides all of the glue on the paper should be dry (It dries fast) and they first couple pieces of styrofoam should be dry. So start applying the paper to the sides.
Now with the paper do the same things and stick then to the front of the styrofoam.
Then they are done! :) just such quick and fun project.
Finally, Hanging them up
First measure out your wall and decided how high and spaced you want them.
I put mine 6 inches from the ceiling with an 8 inch horizontal space and a 6 inch vertical space. I made a hole in the back of the styrofoam 1 inch from the top and in the middle. Then i measured up the wall, put pencil marks where the nails go, put in the nails and hung up the decorations.
Now i just have to get our kitty to stop hitting them and getting them crooked :)
and you're done, hopefully you like your new decorations :)
